Wildfires......September, 2020...
I guess it’s our turn now….it looks like a fire one ridge over. It would feel further away if it were not so darn windy! This is at the end of our driveway right in front of our house.
Ok…the sheriff has been by and we have been asked to leave. There has been no progress in containing the fire…the wind is just too tenacious. The sheriff said it was recommended we leave but we decided to wait a little until neighbors that have lived here longer said it’s time to go. We packed both cars and the travel trailer and took one vehicle with the trailer down to a friend’s house that lived in town. We returned with one car (still packed to the ceiling) and parked it in front of the house, heading out of the driveway. We were ready to leave at a moments notice. We took turns sleeping with one eye open. The fire continued all night and the wind never quit or turned in our direction. We were just lucky…the wind kept the fire moving away from us. It took some days to get the fire under control as the firefighters were stretched so thin trying to keep all that was burning under control. We left both cars and trailer packed until fire season was over. It seemed the easiest thing to do since we were still pretty much sheltered in and weren’t going anywhere. Whew…
